Chromophobia

Chromophobia

I was inspired by three video artist, whos are using the film as a visual language in way, that I feel myself important again. The first significant influence was an exhibition: The theory of freedom by Bjorn Melhus. He is making films since 70’s and he has already a specific style. Bjorn only working with himself as an actor, sometimes he is playing all the different characters. Never using his own voice, allways working with found sound or voice material from different sources. Probably this is his first material and he is writing the film for the sound/voice. He is criticising the globalised mainstream media culture, especially from the neoliberal point of view. He was researching the objectivist philosopher, Ayn Rand, whos one of the main subject was the neoliberalism and it’s effect on the culture. That was a very important point, because Ursula Mayer was using one of the drama of Ayn Rand as a corner stone of her film, Gonda. The movie was very important experience, because I haven’t seen the whole, only the trailer, but it was enough sharp and precise to make me sublime. Ursula was using analog 8mm film in order to make the colors and the movements realistic for the story. The materials, colors, sound and the body are very significant part of her work and making it as one of the basic principle of her film language. Also it was intresting to discover, the main character is a transexual woman, who is alredy by herself is captivating. I was not watching the trailer, I was reading it. The entire film is an artwork. Every single frame is a perfect photograhy of a passing moment.
